Keto-Based Diet Plan FAQ
Medical WeightLoss & Wellness, Inc. clinics are dedicated exclusively to providing our proven and effective weight loss program to the communities we serve. Our medically supervised program consists of a dynamic combination of adherence to a ketogenic diet (real food from local grocery stores), vitamin injections, oral vitamin supplements, supportive counseling by a nurse, prescriptive therapy (optional and only if medically indicated). We not only provide our patients with a roadmap for achieving their weight loss goals, but also the much needed guidance and support required for lasting success. We are dedicated to not only helping you lose weight quickly, safely, and sensibly, but most importantly, we are committed to helping you make lifestyle changes that will result in a lifetime of health.
Weight loss is the only focus of our practice. You will always follow-up with a knowledgeable, experienced nurse. We are here to counsel, encourage, educate, challenge and coach you. This is our dream job and it shows! It is our goal to change your mindset. We want to shift you from a “diet” mentality – which implies temporary, to a “lifestyle change” – which implies permanence.
Absolutely! There is nothing “gimmicky” about our ketogenic (high fat, moderate protein, very low carb) way of eating. Our list of approved food items consist of lean and semi-lean proteins as well as fruits and vegetables (good carbs). This is all food you purchase at your local grocery store or farmer’s market. There are no pre-packaged meals or meal replacement shakes/bars. By eating this way we work to break the carb addiction cycle, regulate hunger hormones and improve overall health and well being.
Rather than relying on willpower, calorie counting, or extreme exercise, the ketogenic diet works because it changes the very “fuel source” your body uses to stay energized: namely, from burning glucose (carbs/sugar) to burning your own body fat for fuel. It is this process that allows most people to lose weight at a more rapid and consistent pace.
Studies have shown carbohydrate restriction can help improve these common conditions:
- regulation of hormones
- improved mental focus and concentration
- stabilization of blood sugars
- relief from symptoms of GERD/acid reflux
- reduction of inflammation in the body
- improvement or even reversal of many obesity related illnesses
By the nature of the MWLW plan, we are gluten free. We do have alternatives for those with various food allergies. We do work with vegetarians. Our program can be altered to accommodate vegans, however their dietary choices are limited. We also require they do additional dietary tracking. Unfortunately, it is challenging to find quality protein that is also low in carbohydrates. Weight loss is typically slower, but it is possible. Our vegans must be willing to spend more time in the kitchen in order to prepare items that will fulfill MWLW nutritional requirements.
If you do have several dietary restrictions, are vegetarian or vegan, we highly recommend you schedule a free consultation with a nurse to discuss whether or not the MWLW program is a good fit for you.
Age requirements for our programs are 18 or older for Semaglutide and 17 or older for our Keto Diet program. If you're 17, please bring a parent or legal guardian to your initial visit (new patient appointment).
Whether you need to lose 10 lbs. or 200 lbs., Medical WeightLoss & Wellness, Inc. can help you reach your weight loss goal. This program is not only about weight loss, more importantly, it is about learning to eat well for a lifetime of good health; weight loss just happens to be one of the benefits of healthy eating!
There are no medications or health issues that negatively interact with the Medical WeightLoss & Wellness, Inc. way of eating. We may need to make minor adjustments based on your medical history, however, this does not exclude you from participation. When you come in for your initial appointment, the nurse practitioner will thoroughly review your medical history and discuss any concerns with you.
During the “active” weight loss phase, we suggest you follow-up weekly. This weekly follow-up allows for optimal results. In addition, our teaching/counseling often leads to “fine-tuning” the program according to your specific needs. Overall, weekly follow-ups are a MAJOR reason behind the success we see at MWLW. Typical follow-up appointments last anywhere from 10-15 minutes and include: weigh-in, vital signs, vitamin injection, and one-on-one counseling with a nurse.
To achieve the very best results, adherence is crucial! 100% adherence can result in 8-20 pounds lost in the first month and 3-12 pounds per month thereafter.
Exercise is not required. Exercise cannot make up for poor eating. 90% of weight loss is based on nutrition, not exercise. Exercise is very important for mental and physical health, but it does not result in significant weight loss.
We use the FDA-approved appetite suppressant Phendimetrazine. Phendimetrazine is one of the appetite suppressants recommended by the National Institute of Health, National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. Medications are for short-term, supervised use. If prescribed as part of your program, this medication will help to curb your hunger and cravings, allowing you to better adhere to the program. For those patients for whom Phendimetrazine is not indicated, we will recommend a more natural supplement that will aid in appetite control.
Currently, all prescription medications to treat obesity are controlled substances, meaning health care practitioners need to follow particular restrictions when prescribing them. Although abuse and dependence are not common with non-amphetamine appetite-suppressant medications (such as Phendimetrazine), caution is taken with individuals who have a history of alcohol or other drug abuse.
Our injections are a unique combination of vitamins and amino acids that aid in fat utilization, fat breakdown, and prevention of fat storage. They also help enhance metabolic function and boost immunity. There is nothing contained within the injection that you do not already have in your body. Our injections are preservative free.
Remember, medication is completely optional for this program and is not indicated for all patients.

Your first appointment (“New Start”) will take 90 minutes. It consists of a history and physical by a licensed Nurse Practitioner. You will receive explicit MWLW diet teaching by a nurse. You will have labs drawn (CBC, CMP, TSH, lipid panel) as well as an EKG, blood pressure check and waist measurement. You will have your weight taken on our state of the art Tanita scale, which will provide a print out of your weight, fat %, fat mass, total body water, and body mass index. Our hope is you have gained insight into healthy eating once you have participated in our program. Have faith! This program will also help you modify the behavior that caused you to gain weight in the first place. Eligibility for Semaglutide at MWLW isn't based on a universal benchmark or a specific number on the
scale. Our approach is to consider your overall medical history and personal health objectives. Generally,
Semaglutide may be a fitting option if you're aiming to lose more than 10 - 15 pounds of excess weight, but this is a flexible guideline rather than a strict rule.
At MWLW, Semaglutide is administered through a weekly subcutaneous injection. Patients are required to follow up with us once per month to ensure optimal care and adjust the treatment as needed. Our approach to Semaglutide dosage is highly individualized, taking into account each patient's health profile and weight loss objectives to create a personalized treatment plan. Responses to Semaglutide can vary from person to person, with some patients experiencing the desired effects more quickly than others. During your monthly follow-up appointments, we will evaluate your progress in terms of appetite control and discuss any side effects you may be experiencing. Our primary aim is to achieve effective appetite management while minimizing or eliminating side effects, thereby supporting you on your journey to reaching your weight loss goals.
Semaglutide has gained recognition for its effectiveness in weight management and its overall safety profile. However, as with any medication, it may cause side effects in some individuals. The most common side effects experienced include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, and constipation. Typically, these side effects are mild and tend to subside over time as your body adapts to the medication. We provide a range of options and strategies designed to prevent or alleviate these side effects. In rare cases, Semaglutide can lead to more serious adverse reactions. These may include, but are not limited to, pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, thyroid tumors, kidney damage, and bowel obstruction. At MWLW, we believe that patient education is crucial in minimizing the risk of side effects, whether mild or severe. From your first visit and throughout your treatment journey, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive education and support. Our aim is to ensure you are fully informed about your treatment options, helping you to make the best decisions for your health and well-being.
At MWLW, your health and safety are our top priorities. We conduct detailed medical evaluations to
determine if Semaglutide is a suitable option for you. If any contraindications are identified, we are committed to exploring alternative weight management strategies that align with your health goals. It is essential to be aware of specific conditions that render Semaglutide inappropriate for use:
- Personal or Family History of Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma (MTC): Due to the potential risk of thyroid tumors, individuals with a personal or family history of MTC should avoid Semaglutide.
- Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Syndrome Type 2 (MEN 2): This genetic disorder, which increases the risk of certain cancers including thyroid cancer, makes Semaglutide an unsuitable choice.
- Allergy to Semaglutide or GLP-1 Type Medications: Those who have experienced allergic reactions to Semaglutide or any GLP-1 receptor agonist medications should avoid this treatment.
- History of Gastroparesis or Pancreatitis: Semaglutide may worsen these gastrointestinal conditions.
- Diabetic Retinopathy: Patients with this diabetic eye disease should proceed with caution and consult their healthcare provider before considering Semaglutide.
- Age Restrictions: Patients must be 18 years of age or older. Those aged 65 and older may, based on their medical history, be required to undergo basic laboratory tests. These tests are available at MWLW for a nominal fee.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Semaglutide is not recommended for those who are currently pregnant, planning to become pregnant within the next six months, or breastfeeding, due to limited research on its safety in these conditions.
- History of Depression with Suicidal Thoughts: Individuals with a history of severe depression or suicidal ideation need a careful evaluation before Semaglutide can be considered.
A majority of people find themselves regaining weight within a year after they stop using Semaglutide due to reverting back to previous unhealthy eating behaviors and not having implemented the necessary lifestyle changes while on the medication. However, there's a silver lining: you possess the power to break this cycle by learning how to change your eating habits and lifestyle, and at MWLW, we're committed to offering the support and resources needed to help you achieve enduring success.
Emerald™ Laser FAQ
Mid-section (abdomen), flanks (“love handles” or “muffin-top”), hips, chest/back, chin/jawline/neck, thighs, ankles/calves, arms, and buttock. Virtually anywhere fat cells grow and accumulate!
The Emerald™ laser reduces overall body circumference. As such, the Emerald™ laser allows for a greater area of treatment coverage. For example, if one chooses to treat the abdomen, by the nature of the Emerald™ laser, treatment will include the entire abdomen, flanks, and mid-to-low back.
The results of the Emerald™ laser vary from patient-to-patient. Optimal results occur when treatmentsare done 1-2 times per week. Most patients will begin to notice fat reduction after four 30-minute treatment sessions.
Depending on the area of the body being treated, an average circumferential loss of 3-6” may occur.
Treatment details:
- Each treatment session is 30-minutes in length
- For best results, we recommend 1-2 treatment sessions per week (minimum of approx. 48-hours apart)
- Number of treatment sessions needed is dependent on individual goals
Emerald™ laser fat reduction is permanent as long as one continues to adhere to a healthy lifestyle. If weight gain occurs, one will likely accumulate fat where fat had been lost previously. Unlike other fat reduction technologies, the Emerald™ laser does not kill or harm fat cells. Fat cells are a vital part of our endocrine system. Treatments that kill fat cells may harm your metabolic system and can decrease your natural metabolism rate; this may open the door to more vicious cycles of future weight gain.
We offer a variety of treatment packages starting at $2400. Please feel free to call us to schedule a FREE 15-minute in-office or telephone consultation at (414) 306-6315.

“They Are Genuine in Their Excitement for You”
“When I started my journey, I was very skeptical about this program. I quickly changed how I felt about it. At that time, I was taking (5) shots of insulin for a total of 320 units per day. My Hemoglobin A1C was 9!! My blood pressure was so high that I was taking 4 different meds, 3 times a day. Today, I’m down 76 lbs, take ½ pill for my high blood pressure, my Hemoglobin A1C is 6 (I’m only .3% away from being NON DIABETIC), I only take 30 units of insulin, and most importantly, I no longer have STAGE 3 CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE!!! I could NOT have done this without the incredible support of EVERYONE at MWLW. They are genuine in their excitement for you and so supportive, and the RN’s are awesome!!”
